My name is Mayerling and I was born in Caracas - Venezuela. A beautiful country in South America going through difficult times. From an early age I knew I wanted to help people and I decided to study Psychology. In 2007 I graduated from university and emigrated to Argentina. I started working with children and teenagers victims of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. Providing group and individual counselling to the children and teenagers living in foster homes.
The next step of my career was in the Argentinean Justice Department, in the Mediation Office. My role was to assist and provide emotional support to people taking part in mediations. This job gave me the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients from different backgrounds who were culturally and linguistically diverse.
In 2015 I emigrated to South Africa to start a family, in 2017 my daughter was born and in 2018 I relocated, for the 3rd time, to Australia. As a migrant myself, I understand how difficult it can be to settle in a new country and all the challenges that come along with that. I am able to fully understand how different variables, such as lack of support, unknown language, lack of familiarity with health system, housing, schools, etc. can impact in mental health. All these life events might increase the likelihood of experience feelings of sadness, grief, stress, anxiety and depression.
I am determined to help and support people who are going through difficult times. Centred-person, empowerment and resilience are the foundation of my approach. Along with CBT, ACT, MBCT techniques and an active listening, empathy, understanding and a respectful and non-judgmental perspective. It is essential for me that clients can find a safe space to express feelings, thoughts, concerns, fears and get the support they need in every and unique journey to well-being. Hope to hear from you soon!
